Timbre

Timbre is an example of a product that takes existing elements and combines them to create a useful, attractive and functional companion. Using capacitive touch technology but simply on a spherical tactile wooden surface (the first of it's kind), the world of interacting with music can move on from the current flat (in more senses than one) methods currently available.

The concept is that music is an effective and personal tool for combatting depression, stress or even just plain boredom. Rather than looking to cure depression and create an idyllic world of happiness, which funnily enough my research exposed to be a fairly difficult challenge, Timbre is created to connect people physically and emotionally to their music. Be that to make those relateable sad songs easier to access through self made shortcuts or to add that trap song you heard on Spotify© to your "Wednesday Party Day" playlist on Deezer© with the touch of your finger.

From  product conceptualised and brought to completion by myself which allowed me to gain confidence to take risks and learn my skills and weaknesses.

Mostly, however, it was that the project had a deeper more social aspect to it than some of the other shorter projects we had undertaken. This allowed me to have more connections to my test users and allowed for me to experiment with different immersive user centred design methods that I can now take and apply to any future projects.
