Chubb Pebbl

Modernising and reinventing the neglected "Panic Button"

Pebbl is our team's reinvention of the current panic button provided by Chubb©, but the company was aware that this was a challenge that was relevent to the entire telecare market. From a design perspective the device was archaic,
ineffective and bland but more importantly this potentially life saving device had become stigmatised and forgettable.

To combat  this we created a product with a sleek, subtle design that with its magnetic band could be worn in a variety of ways, completely up to the user. The slightly depressed button minimises the chance of accidental

pressing while the domed, assymetrical shape with ridges on the button aided with orientation in cases of panic or anxiety.

Our first extensive collaboration with a large company came with many design restrictions, budget and brand identity issues which was very much a learning curve and taught us all the benefit of a big smile and compromise.

The benefits were also sizeable, most of all the larger sample size of our target audience that we were able to utilise as focus groups although following the grand tradition of Scots, these volunteers put up one good fight, making it all the more fun and challenging.

From this project we created a product that my group and the users involved could be proud of, which all culminated in a public exhibition to which our users were invited to,just overall it was one of the most enlightening, humbling and gratifying project I have done to date.
